Things We ❤️
Teacher Wellness

Teaching Brilliantly is a concept that promotes engaging in practices that empower you to teach and live a balanced and brilliant life. But to be an effective teacher, you must care for yourself to give your students the support they need. Burnout is real! Being stressed harms our physical and emotional health. Plus, it causes strain in our relationships with our students and colleagues. But it can be avoided with healthy practices that promote wellness.

We identify wellness practices into three powerhouse goals:

1.      Developing inner strength and resilience

2.      Developing compassionate relationships with self and others

3.      Having high expectations for self and others.

These aspects support living a balanced life. Creating balance in our personal and professional lives gives us the strength to work in diverse and dynamic environments and to do the emotional and physically demanding work in education.

Our top 5 strategies to promote wellness are:

On this page, we have curated items that support these strategies to empower you to live your most balanced life.

Educator Bandwidth

This is a GREAT book! There are several essential nuggets in this book; one we think is important is, “Adults can’t guide students in social and emotional learning if the adults are burned out, disengaged, and ineffective!” (Kise and Holm, 2022)

Developing inner strength and resilience takes self-compassion. Being kind to ourselves is critical to achieving a fulfilling work-life balance. We highly recommend reading the collection of books that support developing self-compassion to have a compassionate relationship with self and others.

Have you ever wanted certain books with you but forgot them in the classroom or at home? Our favorite way to carry around all those teacher books we want to refer to is on our Kindle

Also, with a library membership, many books can be borrowed and loaded on your Kindle. You can even load a PDF to read there later or to have. The best part for me is I read in bed at night with the lights off, it doesn't affect your eyes or your partner.

Here is one version, but there are many others. Check them out on Amazon.

DoTerra

Teacher Wellness begins with daily self-care routines and is vital to increase overall teacher wellness. One routine we highly recommend is connecting the senses by using essential oils to promote physical health and emotional wellness. Our favorite essential oil distributor is doTERRA.

The doTERRA site is filled with beautiful resources to learn about using essential oils, such as What Are Essential Oils and How do I use Essential Oils.

Check out our curated Shopping Bag of our favorite roller bottle essential oils: Lavender, Motivate, Adaptiv, Oregano, and Tea Tree.

These oils support emotional wellness and physical health when feeling ill.

DoTERRA Shopping Bag

We use Lavender at night to relax and get a restful sleep, motivate and Adaptiv during the day to enhance productivity while staying calm and relaxed in stressful environments, and use Oregano and Tea Tree when we feel under the weather.

Order roller bottles already blended with carrier oil, making them very convenient and traveling quickly.

Just roll them on the inside of your wrist, the back of your neck, or the bottoms of your feet, and you are good to go.

Tea Tree oil is also great for curing sore throats; rub it on your neck when you get a tickle in your throat. Repeat every 2 hours or so till symptoms are gone.
